Nicholas d’Orlando: Building Experience, Looking Toward 2027

Nick d'Orlando professional driver 2027 season

With much of 2026 spent coaching, developing drivers, and gaining experience across multiple forms of motorsport, Nick d’Orlando is working toward the next chapter of his professional racing career.

Like many young drivers navigating professional motorsport, Nick entered the year facing one of the sport’s biggest challenges: securing the funding and partnerships necessary to compete at the next level.

Budget restrictions ultimately prevented him from contesting a full-season championship, but they did not keep him away from the racetrack. Instead, Nick focused on private driver coaching and instruction while continuing to develop his own skills and experience behind the wheel.

His work throughout the year has spanned open-wheel cars, prototypes, and sports cars, including coaching in Revolution Cup and SRO competition. That variety has allowed him to apply the knowledge accumulated throughout his racing career while working with drivers at different stages of their development.

Moving between different cars and racing environments has also broadened Nick’s own experience. Each requires an understanding of distinct vehicle characteristics, driving techniques, and technical demands, strengthening his versatility as both a driver and coach.

For Nick, coaching involves more than demonstrating pace behind the wheel. Understanding data, identifying areas for improvement, and translating those findings into clear, actionable feedback have become important parts of his work with other drivers.

Building a Broader Path

While coaching has become a valuable part of Nick’s career, his primary ambition remains returning to regular competition.

Much of his racing background has been built in open-wheel competition, but his growing experience with sports cars and prototypes has expanded the opportunities he is pursuing. Sports car and endurance racing offer additional avenues as he evaluates potential programs and works to build a sustainable path forward.

Alongside his driving and coaching work, Nick remains active on the business side of motorsport, developing relationships with teams and prospective sponsors. His focus extends beyond securing a seat to building partnerships that can support a competitive program over the long term.

Looking Toward 2027

For Nick, 2026 has been less about stepping away from racing and more about expanding what he can bring to his next opportunity. Despite the financial barriers to a full-season campaign, he has continued developing behind the wheel and added another dimension to his career through coaching.

The objective now is to turn that experience and preparation into a return to the grid.
